Tips to help you choose

Tips for choosing a health plan

Choose the best health plan for you in the county where you live.

  • Go to Compare plans to see the health plans available in your county and see the extra benefits that each plan has.

To help you choose, you should think about your answers to these questions:

  • Do you want to keep your doctor or clinic, or do you want a new doctor or clinic?
  • Does the health plan have the doctors, hospitals, and specialists you use?
  • Does anyone in your family have special health needs?
  • What extra services does the health plan have?

Tips for choosing a primary care provider (PCP)

Think about whether you want to keep the doctor or clinic you have now or choose a new doctor to be your PCP.

If you want to keep the doctor you have now, search to see whether he or she is in one of the health plans. If he or she is in the right plan, you can choose your doctor as your primary care provider.

If you want to choose a new doctor to be your PCP, ask people you trust for names of doctors they like. Then search to see what health plans the doctors are in. Or search for providers near you.

To help you choose a PCP, think about your answers to these questions:

  • Is there a doctor you already like?
  • How far are you willing to travel to see a doctor?
  • Do you need a doctor who speaks a certain language?
